The following is an article from the Ilderton Banner with information on the Tournament:

Ilderton Red Sox host WOBA PeeWee Tier 2 Championships!

The Ilderton "Red Sox" Minor Baseball Association hosted the WOBA PeeWee Tier 2 Championships on August 25 & 26, 2012 at Heritage Park in Ilderton. With a meticulously manicured baseball diamond and picture perfect weather conditions, nine exciting games of baseball were played.

A five team double knockout tournament featured teams from Goderich, North Middlesex, St. Marys and the host teams, Ilderton "Red" & Ilderton "Blue".

To start the tournament off, and in walk off fashion, game #1 on Saturday morning saw St. Marys squeeze out a 10-9 win over a determined North Middlesex team. Players of the game were Jayden Rooney for St. Marys and Raymond Hutton for North Middlesex.

In game #2 a spirited Goderich squad built up an early 5-0 lead only to have Ilderton "Blue" storm back and win the game 8-6. Players of the game were Tanner Maize for Goderich and Silvio Sauro for Ilderton “Blue”.

The highlight of the weekend took place between games #2 and #3 as each team selected 3 players to compete in the "Home Run Derby". With a large crowd of team mates, parents, siblings, friends and grand parents cheering them on, each player took a crack at achieving one of baseballs most exciting rewards. Nathan Schmoll, representing Ilderton "Blue", walked away with the trophy after smacking 3 balls over the fence. Ilderton “Red’s” Hunter Russell came up just short hitting 2 dingers.

Game #3 was a guaranteed victory for Ilderton. Friends and classmates competed hard until the last out was made, with the "Red" squad narrowly defeated "Blue" team 5-3. Players of the game were Matt Rodrigues for “Red” and Logan Neable for “Blue”.

With thier baseball lives on the line, it was do or die in game #4 as the loser would be heading home. Goderich stayed in the running with an 18-3 defeat over North Middlesex. Players of the game were Tristan Russelo for Goderich and Logan Kennedy for North Middlesex.

In the last game early Saturday evening, Ilderton "Red’s" undefeated season came to an abrupt end as St. Marys brought them back to reality with a 12-6 win. Players of the game were Hunter Russell for Ilderton “Red” and Eli Graham for St. Marys.

The four remaining teams enjoyed some much needed rest after enduring Saturday's hot temperatures. Game #6 on Sunday morning was "win or get out the hockey sticks" between Goderich and Ilderton "Blue". Goderich wanted nothing to do with that as they scored 7 late inning runs for an exciting 12-8 win, sending the "Blue" squad in search of their hockey gear. Players of the game were Justin Pentland for Goderich and Zach Palmer for Ilderton “Blue”.

Up next, game #7 determined who would be heading to the finals against the strong St. Marys team. Ilderton "Red" fought back from an early 5-0 deficit to defeat the talented Goderich boys 11-8. Players of the game were Tyson Carter for Goderich and  Isaiah Smith for Ilderton “Red”.

St. Marys was eager and hungry, looking forward to finishing off Ilderton "Red" in the Championship game. The see-saw battle kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Ilderton's bullpen kept St. Marys' big hitters off the bases in their last at bat, resulting in a thrilling 7-6 victory for the "Red" Sox, forcing a winner take all game #9. Players of the game were Ryan Talbot for Ilderton and Brogan Aylward for St. Marys.

With the fans back in the bleachers and the players in the dugouts after a short break, game #9 started with nervous anticipation for both teams as the score board showed St. Marys holding on to a slim 4-3 lead going into the last inning. St. Marys claimed the Championship after a couple of costly Ilderton errors and some clutch hitting for a well deserved 9-3 victory. The victory served as a measure of revenge as they lost to Ilderton in last season’s Mosquito Tier 2 Championship game. Players of the game were David Gysbers for Ilderton and Dylan Gosselin for St. Marys.

Congratulations to St. Marys, 2012 WOBA PeeWee Tier 2 Champions!
