L’IL DECKHAND SEAHAWKS BACK ON TRACK
On June 9th, the U12 Squirt girls took their unblemished Tri County League record on the road where they faced a strong Londesborough club. The Seahawks dug themselves a hole early in this one trailing 4-0 after the first. However, a Temika Walter triple sparked the Goderich bats. Emily Hartin drove in Walter to put the ‘Hawks in flight. Abby Archambault, Zoe Milne, and Grace Taylor also scored to tie the game. In the third, Camryn Austin and Jamie Archambault were plated to give the visitors a brief 6-4 lead. However, Londesborough immediately answered with 4 runs to regain the lead.

The fourth inning saw Jordyn Hodges lead off with a single, followed by another towering triple by Walter. Hartin and Walter scored on a Milne single for a 10-8 Deckhand lead. The home side replied with five runs of their own to continue this see saw battle. The bottom of the Goderich line up scored four runs as Lily Lierman, Paige Bauer, Archambault, and Payton Swan all scored. Proving that the last at bat should be important, Londesborough scored twice in their last at bat to send the Seahawks home with a 15-14 loss.

On June 16th, Benmiller visited Ag Park to attempt to avenge a season opening 18-3 loss to the U12 girls. The visitors jumped out quickly to a 5-0 lead, but, an absolute bomb of a home run off of the hot bat of Temika Walter quickly tied the game. Katie Ridsdale scored to give the home side a lead that they would not relinquish.

The youngest player in the U12 loop, Jamie Archambault, delivered a clutch 2 run single which was followed by a single by Camryn Austin.

With Benmiller already having scored twice, and, threatening with the bases loaded, Megan Kovats made the defensive play of the game when she expertly snagged a bases loaded sharp line drive at 3rd to put an end to the visitors’ rally.

With the locals only needing a run, Emily Hartin drew a walk. Ava Fitzgerald did a nice job of moving Hartin to 2nd. Hartin then proceeded to swipe 3rd, and, eventually, steal home to give the home side a crazy 10 – 9 victory to improve their league record to 4-1. Shalen Kernighan and Paige Chebott provided a spark to this club with their timely hitting and fielding.

The L’il Deckhands have a tough schedule on the horizon as they travel to Seaforth on June 19th where they will challenge for the league lead. They will then return home on the 23rd for a return match with the Londesborough club.
