Squirt Seahawks Turning Heads In H.P.F.L.
The L'il Deckhand Squirt Girls Fastball Team have exceeded expectations so far in their first venture into the world of girls fastball in the competitive Huron Perth Fastball League

Sporting a very respectable 3-2 record heading into their toughest stretch of the season, the Squirts faced a daunting task of visiting three of the premiere programs in four nights. What they came away with was a battle tested, and, confident group in losing the three games by a combined total of six runs to sit in a log jam in the middle of the H.P.F.L. standings.
On July 6, the Seahawks came out flat with the bats falling behind to a veteran Mitchell team that took advantage of the slow start in building a lead that the locals could not overcome in the time allowed. The Seahawks were led at the plate by Katie R. with two triples and a grand slam. Also leading the way were Zoe M., and, Jamie A. who scored three times for the visitors. Jordyn H. did a masterful job behind the plate for Goderich in minimizing the Mitchell attack.
The next night, the Seahawk week became even more difficult with a trip to Tavistock to face the League leading Athletics with a depleted roster of only 9 players due to a late scratch of veteran Emily H. due to illness. Already without veteran SS Megan K., sophomore fire baller Grace T., and, first year slugger Kate J., the locals were in tough.
Payton S. was a bulldog on the mound battling hard all evening to keep the talented A's hitters off balance. Audrey C. was electrifying in the field, and, Jillian H. was daring on the base paths as the Seahawks kept things close. In the end, the home side sent the Seahawks to DD's ice cream parlour with a hard fought 12-11 loss.
After a well earned day off, the L'il Deckhands were off to Exeter to face the other co league leader. The Seahawks came out very determined building an 8-3 lead after 2 1/2 innings thanks to a couple of great at bats from Blyth's own Janelle D. Said Coach Dan, Janelle is one of the hardest working players on this team, and, to see her battle so hard is awesome!! Ava F. led the way offensively for the Seahawks scoring all three times she was up to bat. The downfall in this game came in the 5th inning when the locals made a few mental mistakes in the field allowing a league powerhouse some easy runs to win 13-10.
After stops at both DQ and Woodlands Drive In in Bayfield, the Squirts arrived home from an awesome week of fastball (and a ton of ice cream).
Next week is even busier for the U12's as they are home to Mitchell on Monday evening before travelling to Stratford for a Wednesday night tilt in the Festival City. The girls will then host an early evening doubleheader at Ag Park on Sunday the 19th versus Shakespeare and Lieury. Be sure to come on out to the ball park to check out some of this exciting fastball action. They're awesome to watch!!!
