Great season start for Goderich Seahawks Mosquito Black baseball team
The Goderich Seahawks Mosquito Black team has had an amazing start to their season, capped off by a first place finish in the Jeremy Austin Memorial Tournament held in Goderich last weekend. The Seahawks started league play by going 3-0 but still were not sure how they stacked up heading in to the tournament. They quickly learned that tJeremy Austin Memorial tournamnet -0 the team wasnt hey can compete with any team and ended up winning the hometown tournament with an exciting come from behind victory against Kincardine in the final with a score of 14-13.

The Seahawks rolled through the tournament round robin games on Saturday with scores of 18-4 against Kincardine Blue and 18-7 against Hanover. These games where highlighted by great pitching from Haedon Evanski, Keegan Greer, Jacob Larkin, and Eric Volland. The whole team contributed at the plate with multiple hits from every player. There wasn’t one player on the roster that didn’t score at least once in the two games. Player of the game went to Haedon Evanski in the first game and Aaron Matthews in the second game.

With the two convincing wins, the Seahawks finished first in their pool and had to play the St Mary’s minor team in the Semi-final Sunday morning.  The team was pumped up and came out swinging to capture another solid 15-5 win. The pitching combination of Eric Moore and Jacob Larkin shut the St Mary’s bats down effectively. They were helped out by 6 runs in both the first and second inning to give them a comfortable lead to pitch with. Player of the game went to Eric Moore.

The win put them in the Final against a strong Kincardine Red team. The players where ready for the challenge but came out a little flat and fell behind 9-2 after 3 innings. Starting pitcher Keegan Greer and relief pitcher Eric Moore tried their best to keep the score close, but a few walks combined with a few fielding errors allowed Kincardine to take the early lead.  The Seahawks never gave up and ended up scoring 11 runs over the next two innings. Smart, disciplined at bats by Nora Matthews, Evan McBride, Owen McGee, Alex Noel and Mitchell Hodges, put the Seahawks right back into the game. Relief pitcher Eric Volland was rock solid for the last 3 innings and allowed the team to climb back from the early deficit. The game was capped off by a two out, two strike walk off double by Keegan Greer to drive in the winning run and win the championship. Player of the game was Keegan Greer. The coaches where very proud of the team for never giving up and being great representatives of the town, as they showed true sportsmanship though out the weekend.

After a couple more league games the team is now 8-1 with some very tough games coming up. Hopefully they can continue the early success they’ve had and continue to play great baseball.
