Culbert Surveying Peewees Beat Ironhawks
The U14 Seahawks fastball team was determined to put in a good effort on May 30.
With a good crowd on hand at Ag Park to watch these peewees battle the Ingersoll Ironhawks in Huron Perth League action, the locals did not disappoint.
Grace T was given the start on the mound with Jordyn H starting as her battery mate. The visitors struck for two runs early, but, Goderich responded in the bottom half with five of their own using their speed on the base paths to create plenty of havoc. Payton S, Jamie A, Megan K, Ava F, and, Grace T all managed to cross the plate.
Ingersoll answered with five runs of their own to recapture a brief lead, but, the home side was up to the task again with their next turn at bat as Zoe M, Emily H, and, Jordyn H set the table for Bella M who had a fabulous night at the plate.
Katie R, more known for her offensive contributions, had a solid game defensively doubling up an unsuspecting runner on a fly ball, and, throwing out a runner trying to swipe second.
Payton S took over the mound duties in the final inning to save a 14-9 win for Grace T, and, her team mates who had battled hard all game making numerous excellent defensive plays in the field.
