PEEWEE GIRLS STRONG AT FASTBALLFEST
The U14 Peewee Seahawks opened the Mitchell Fastballfest Tournament on June 2nd at Ketering Park versus Waterdown.

Janelle D. was given the start for the locals. The Seahawks led 6-2 after the first as Grace T., and, Jaimy L. set the top of the order nicely for a Katie R. RBI double. Kate J. then singled home Emily H. to extend the inning. Bella M. capped off the outburst with a two run single.
Goderich, however, seemed to play fairly inconsistently in this opener combining some great play with some real "head scratchers" both defensively, and, offensively allowing the Waterdown club to stay in the game right until the end.
Payton S. stroked a fabulous RBI single to centre field to give Goderich an 11-8 lead. However, Waterdown took advantage of the less focused Seahawks scoring four in the top half of the final inning to grab the one run lead. In the bottom half, Jamie A. led off with a line drive blast up the middle that actually knocked the glove off of the pitcher's hand, but, the young Waterdown hurler had the presence of mind to compose herself and throw to first for the deflating out. Two routine ground balls later, and, the Seahawks were left with a lesson in the importance of being game ready from start to finish.
Seahawks 15 vs. Mitchell 8
With very little time to dwell on the previous night, the 8:00 am game versus the hometown Mitchell Hornets came very quickly. Goderich starter, Brianna M., battled hard all game, and, helped her own cause at the plate with an impressive 3 for 3 performance. Ava F. also had a great game going 2 for 2 with a spectacular bunt single. Defensively, Zoe M. had a busy game expertly covering first base and the right side of the infield.
Seahawks 16 vs. Camlachie 10
The Seahawks played their Saturday matinee game versus the Camlachie Cougars with Payton S. taking the mound duties scattering six hits, and, only allowing one free pass to the Cougars. Said Coach, Sherri Coleman, "Payton throws strikes which allows our team to always stay in any game and make the other team earn their runs with hits." The locals were once again led at the plate by the talented rookie Jaimy L., and, veteran Grace T. who had a three RBI performance. In the Goderich half of the fourth inning, Hannah K. impressed the Coaching Staff with an at bat that saw the rookie get behind in the count early, but, battle off several tough pitches before scoring Zoe M. from third on a well placed ground ball to the right side of the infield earning high praises.
The Seahawks narrowly missed the Sunday playoff round with a 2-1 record because of a runs against tie break format which saw Exeter move on instead. Coach, Glen Ditner, while somewhat concerned about the high number of runs allowed, felt the club played some great exciting ball during the weekend.
