CHAMPIONS!
Goderich Seahawks Tier 1 Major Rookie team brings home WOBA Division 1 Championship.

Championships don’t come easily, and the Tier 1 Major Rookie Seahawks faced the most difficult possible schedule on their path to the first WOBA Championship title for GMBA in recent memory.

In their round robin games, the Seahawks faced the #1 and #2 ranked teams in Listowel and Mt. Forest. They came away with 19-17 and 26-16 victories, riding hot bats in both games. At the end of their round robin games, the Seahawks sat tied with Exeter with a 2-0 record, but ended up with the 2nd seed for the semi-final round through a runs-against tie-breaker, putting them back up against Listowel. The Seahawks kept the hits coming while tightening up their defence, handing Listowel another defeat, this time 17-7.

The championship game was a seesaw battle with a handful of lead changes. The Seahawks bats stayed hot, and they held off a very strong Mt. Forest team for the narrowest of wins, 20-19. The key to victory for the Seahawks all weekend was their team-first attitude, with every player playing an important role in the championship title.

The Seahawks played a development-geared regular season, with all players playing all positions they wanted to try, finishing with a record of 7-7. It was the big stage that brought the very best out of the Seahawks, going 9-0 in tournament play over the year, winning the Exeter Major Rookie tournament in June, and the WOBA Division 1 Championship as their grand finale.
