A message from our president regarding the 2020 cancelled season.
Hello Seahawks,
Since my last update to the membership, there have been several developments. These developments include: the cancellation of the season by the Huron-Perth Fastball League executive, many surrounding local baseball associations cancelling their 2020 season (such as Clinton, Exeter, St. Mary’s, Listowel, etc.), and our membership survey results. Baseball Ontario also released an approved Return to Play Protocol document on June 11th which included many requirements to help minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission related to baseball activities.
Considering this information, it is with regret that the executive of Goderich Minor Baseball has decided to cancel the 2020 ball season.
As an organization, we felt that we would be challenged to meet the return to play protocols announced by Baseball Ontario. The most important factor in this decision was considering the safety of our players, spectators, umpires, coaches, and volunteers.
We will be issuing full refunds for registration fees right away. If you have not received your refund by Monday June 22, please email:
If you paid by PayPal, your refund will be processed through PayPal. If you paid by cheque, we will rip up the cheque. If you paid by cash, we will write you a cheque and send it to you.
Our membership survey showed a lot of interest in a locally run skills session. We will monitor provincial and local conditions and Baseball Ontario requirements and if conditions improve, we may proceed with this later in the summer. If so, we will advertise these sessions on our website and social media pages.
Once again, it is with sincere regret and disappointment that we have to make this difficult decision.
Hopefully, the 2021 season returns to normal playing conditions. Watch for online registration to begin early January 2021. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the executive.
Sincerely,
Jeff Squire on behalf of the
Goderich Minor Baseball Executive
