Squirts Steal Their Way To Victory In Fullarton
The L'il Deckhand Seahawks continued their hectic stretch of H.P.F.L. games with a visit to Fullarton on Monday night.
Following a tough doubleheader loss to Shakespeare and Lieury the previous evening, the U12's were determined to make things happen in Fullarton.
Janelle D. took to the mound for the visitors, and, did not disappoint battling hard on every pitch to give her team an opportunity to win. Defensively, the Squirts had a strong effort from Audrey C., Ava F., and, Jillian H. who were forced to work pretty hard tracking down some well hit balls by the home side.
In the infield, Emily H. played well at third complimenting the usually sure handed Zoe M. at first. Jordyn H. continued to play great ball behind the plate for the Seahawks.
Offensively, Katie R. had two hits for the visitors, while Jamie A. and Grace T. were electric giving the home squad fits defensively with their hitting and base running bravado. Said Coach Dan "We are teaching these girls to really push the envelope on the base paths, and, Jamie and Grace just bring it every night. The Coach also had high praise for first year player, Kate J., stating "Look at her game tonight - a near snag on a hard line drive at third, a great effort in centre field, a base hit RBI to spark a huge 5 run 2nd inning!"
With the Seahawks clinging to a 2 run lead, Payton S. took over the mound to give Janelle D. a well deserved break. After two quick outs, Fullarton's lead off hitter crushed a hit with a runner on first to left field in what normally would have been a game tying home run. The effort and defensive cut off by Goderich held that runner at third setting the stage for an exciting game ending strike out and an 11-10 road win.
The Squirts travel to Stonetown on Thursday for a West Division battle in St. Mary's before returning home for an evening double header on the 27th versus St. Mary's and Exeter.
