U12 Squirt Girls, 2014 (Goderich Minor Baseball)

The only youth fastball team in Goderich finished its sophomore season on the August 8 & 9 weekend by hosting the Tri County League Championship Tournament at Ag Park. The youngest team in the league by far, the all girls local club once again competed in the predominantly boys Tri County League finishing with a much improved 5 – 7 record. Adding to this statistic was the fact that 3 of their losses were 1 run ball games. The Seahawks carried 16 players this season with only two of those being in their final year of U12 competition. The Goderich Squirt Fastball Team will have an opportunity to show their energy and skill at home this weekend as Ag Park will be the venue to decide U12 supremacy in the Tri County Fastball League with action beginning Friday, August 8th, and, finishing late Saturday, August 9th with the “A” and “B” Championship games.

On Thursday, July 10th, the players of the U12 Squirt L’il Deckhands were summoned by the Coaching Staff to the Huron County Museum for a surprise special Team event evening. The U12’s, ever eager for more practice, showed up for their night at the museum with ball gloves in hand not knowing what to expect. Coaches Niki Kovats and Rhonda Hodges did a masterful job of keeping the Squirts guessing as to what was in store for the evening.

Monday, July 7th saw the Goderich U12 L’il Deckhands Fastball team hosting Crediton. Payton Swan drew the start on the mound with Jordyn Hodges and Katie Ridsdale platooning as the second half of the battery. Swan did a nice job of throwing strikes, and, trusting her solid defence behind her. The offence came out swinging led by Zoe Milne and Lily Lierman at the top of the order. Hodges stroked a double putting the Seahawks in flight. On June 9th, the U12 Squirt girls took their unblemished Tri County League record on the road where they faced a strong Londesborough club. The Seahawks dug themselves a hole early in this one trailing 4-0 after the first. However, a Temika Walter triple sparked the Goderich bats. Emily Hartin drove in Walter to put the ‘Hawks in flight. Abby Archambault, Zoe Milne, and Grace Taylor also scored to tie the game. In the third, Camryn Austin and Jamie Archambault were plated to give the visitors a brief 6-4 lead. However, Londesborough immediately answered with 4 runs to regain the lead.
